So I have been severely lacking in my blog-updating lately and I'm going to try to do better! The last few weeks I have traveled all over the state of Texas (mostly for work) and I've had few opportunities to get on here. I've been to the Panhandle and South Texas, Central Texas and I'm headed to East Texas next week. All in a month's time! The trip to Central Texas was for my cousin's baby shower and Husband's and my anniversary. This week I'm thankful for the trip Hubby and I made and the few days we got to escape normal life! I'm thankful for new babies in the family! This weekend was Cinnamon's baby shower and we found out they are expecting a little girl! I'm so excited to welcome another little one! And, it's so much fun to buy clothes for baby girls :) This week, I'm very thankful for WINE. Our anniversary trip was to the wine country in Central Texas and we had such a wonderful time tasting tons of amazing blends! We spent two days traveling to different wineries and broadening our palette. Now, we have to figure out when we can use the goodies we brought back! Our trip was incredible. We stayed at this amazing Bed and Breakfast in Fredericksburg and we were spoiled rotten. Our room was quaint and perfect and the breakfast was delicious. It was exactly what we wanted and when we left, Husband promised to go back soon! I'm so glad I found the perfect spot for our trip! Check it out - Corner Cottage B&B. So this is King George - the Corner Cottage Conman. He tricked all of us into believing he was a starving, homeless kitty and we were shocked to find out that he specializes in conning lodgers into believing he needs leftovers. Though I felt a little embarrassed that I fell for his tricks, I am glad he added to the weekend. Had to make sure I got a pic with him before I left... Isn't he adorable!?

My sweet Meg passed away yesterday and I was absolutely distraught. The feeding tube didn't work and she just got sicker and sicker over the weekend. It was heart-breaking to hear her cry out and by yesterday morning, she couldn't even sit up. I knew it was time to let her go and I cried and cried until the vet opened. It was one of the hardest decisions I ever had to make yesterday, but I know she is no longer suffering and can be in peace now. Husband took off the day with me and buried her under the St. Francis in our garden. We planted catnip over her and put some sweet decorations around it. I cried on and off all day long and the house seems so empty without her. I've had her since she was just a couple weeks old and she passed away at 15 1/2. Most of my life I've spent with her at my side and it will be tough to learn to cope without her. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and your calls/texts/messages yesterday. I really appreciate it! I found some good pictures to put on here to help you see how much joy she brought. Unfortunately, I don't have any of her when she was younger because those were the days before digital cameras and camera phones! Hope you enjoy! I was having a bum day on Monday and I was really down. My ridiculously supportive husband sent me a text with a bunch of pictures and told me to see all of the things I had to be lucky for. Instead of the usual Thankful Thursday post, I thought I'd share those pics with you! I am so thankful for the support I have from my husband who would send me texts like this!
This weekend, I ran the Run10Feed10 Austin 10K with my sister Cate. I spent the weekend with her and her beautiful family in Austin and it was so wonderful to see them! On Saturday morning, we got up early to run our 10K and then went over to one of her favorite Mexican restaurants for a post-race brunch. My friend Ama met us there and it was great to see her, too! (Re: pics, Cate and I forgot to take pics at the actual race so here are our beautiful post-run faces, and Ama and I did take a pic, but because I'm a good friend, I'm going to keep that one under wraps because she was exhausted from attending ACL (Austin City Limits) and I don't know if she wants me to share the pic or not!). Anyway, after the race and brunch, we went back to Cate's house and spent the rest of the afternoon napping, playing with her gorgeous baby girl Claire, and catching up. Later, her oldest, Ellie, joined us and I read her a bedtime story (and she corrected me every time I missed a word.. haha. She's sooo smart!) Oh, I forgot to mention the amazing dinner that Cate's hubby Eric made us! DELISH. I think I'll head out there more often just so he can cook for me ;) After we got the kiddos to bed, Eric talked Cate and me into doing the P90X stretching video with him. Supposedly Cate got some pretty classic pics of Eric and me stretching but I have yet to see those ;) Sunday morning, Ellie woke me up with a book in hand and climbed into bed with me so I could read to her. It was so sweet and a great way to wake up! I was sad to head home yesterday because it was really a perfect weekend! I'm already looking forward to going back for another visit!! To top off the weekend, when I got home, I had received my new scarves that my friend Gretchen made me (now I need cold weather so I can wear them!!). When I opened my letter from her, I found a present. Gretchen sent me fall from NY!! Since we don't really get fall down here, I have really been bummed that this year is so beautiful in the Northeast. Since she didn't want me to feel left out, she sent me a little so I didn't miss it! How sweet is she?? This weekend was my mom's 60th birthday and we threw her a 1920's themed birthday party. It was so much fun seeing everyone dressed up in their 20's gear and listening to music from the era! We had excellent food and the house was decorated amazingly. The best part about the weekend was the fact that we had family come in town to celebrate. 3 of my mom's 5 siblings made it down from Kansas along with 4 of my cousins! We also had a special visit from Caitlin (who is basically my sister). The friends that came for the party were so special to my mom and I know she truly appreciated everyone who made it!
This week, Salice and I finally got to go visit the Houstom Museum of Natural Science to see the Titanic Exhibit. She and I have wanted to see it for months but something kept coming up and ruining our plans. I was grateful to share such an interesting experience with her and we even got to speak with the curator and see some extras that aren't on display at the museum! It was great to share the experience with her and we even made a date out of it. Dinner and a museum -- what more can you ask for??? :) This week receive some disappointing news about my brother. He has been in the hospital since the weekend and was diagnosed with full-fledged Crohn's disease. Previously, we had been told that he was suffering from Ulcerative Colitis but now we know that he has an even longer battle ahead of him. I am so thankful for all the support and prayers from friends and family for his health and recovery from his current bout of GI issues. We are so blessed to have people thinking about him and checking up on him. And, I'm blessed to have friends who are there supporting all of us. Thank you all. Today, my friend Rachel and her family come to stay with us. Rachel and I have been friends since we were in elementary school. I can't believe that I can look at her now with her two babies (2&3) and remember her just a couple years older than those boys! On Friday, she and her family were driving through Houston to meet her in-laws for a week in Galveston and they had some time to kill. Luckily, I had just arrived from my business trip and was about 15 minutes away! We got to spend about 45 minutes together completely impromptu! Sometimes those are the best visits! I'm thankful she gets to spend the next couple of days with me as well! I'm so thankful for my morning dates with my friend Kim (my anchor ;)). Whether it's to our favorite Starbucks or to get some breakfast, our dates really help my days. Not sure what I'd do without her here (so she can't even change jobs! Or get preggo again and leave me... haha). Can you believe it has been 11 years since the horrific attacks on the World Trade Center?
It's amazing how something like that is forever imprinted in your memory. No matter how many years pass, I will always remember the discussions I overheard as the events unfolded. I will remember what I was doing and who I spoke to. The feeling of disbelief and uncertainty that filled our nation. Then, the heroes that emerged, quite literally, from the rubble. Though I was thousands of miles away from the attacks, I know some people who were caught in the midst of it. My friend Caroline was working in the tower and watched the first plane hit the building next to her. Listening to her describe the devastation is almost unbelievable. It doesn't seem like something like that could actually happen -- but it did. What were you doing 11 years ago? Who did you talk to? How did you react? I was walking to my locker between first and second period when I heard someone talk about the first plane hitting the WTC. No one really understood what that meant and I think many people thought it was just an accident. When you heard about it on the radio, it didn't seem as vicious as when you saw it on TV. When I settled into my second period Health class, I remember one of the coaches rushing into our room and telling us that the second building was hit. At that point, no one could deny the first was an accident. As high school students, I still don't think we could comprehend what exactly that meant until we saw the news coverage in our homeroom class the next period. At that point, everyone was stunned. The rest of the day seemed like the longest and most surreal day ever. All we wanted was more information but the more we watched the coverage, the more questions we had. Over the years, more and more stories have emerged of the heroism shown that day and those following the attacks. I've read about the heroes on Flight 93 who saved the Pentagon from attack. I've seen the amazing footage released last year that was recorded during the attacks. And, I have heard stories from individuals themselves who lived through the tragedy. I, for one, will never forget 9/11. Those who survived and those who didn't. Those who lost someone. They all deserve a thought today. This week I'm thankful for my super friends! We had a pool day over the weekend to celebrate my bday and it was so fun to just spend the day with some of my good girl friends. They are so supportive and I'm lucky to have them in my life :) For my birthday, my family took me to this adorable French restaurant called Chez Nous. It's a little hole-in-the-wall place but super fancy. It was absolutely delicious and wonderful to see my familia. I'm so lucky to have them and that they spoil me so much! I'm thankful for everyone who has already donated to my race. I've said before how much I love the Run 10 Feed 10 program that I'm working with to raise funds for local starving children, but I can't get over how great it is. Please check out my fundraising page and go through the links on it. There is a link to the Run10Feed10 project as well as the Feed Project (which is a world-wide foundation to help feed starving children). While you're there, please help me reach my goal of $1,000! Any little bit helps!! Thanks so much! I'm very grateful for the new bicycle tires I got for my birthday! My bike is about 13 years old and definitely isn't as snazzy as the one in the picture here (but I wish it was!) and right now, it is hanging in our garage with flat tires. I haven't ridden a bike in years but I have recently wanted to take it up. I think it's a good way to mix up my workouts and I'd love to teach my dog to run next to me while I ride. He'd love to be able to run a little faster than he does when I'm jogging. Hopefully this weekend I can change out my tires and get a nice little ride in. It shouldn't be that hard, right? It's easy as riding a bike... or it is riding a bike... First off, I'd like to congratulate Gabby Douglas on an amazing performance in the gymnastics all-around last night. She did amazing and the end to her floor routine was just incredible! Who can't fall in love with that smile of hers?? Congrats on bringing home another US gold and for being such a great model for us! You are truly a joy to watch, Miss Gabby Douglas!!! And now for some good Olympic-themed laughs for your Friday!! |
