Bath and Body Works has their fall line ready for purchase!! That means fall is just around the corner and I'm soooo excited! It's my favorite time of year for so many reasons and I get giddy when I start seeing autumn-themed items hit the shelves! I'm thankful for cozy smells and beautiful colors that will start filling up houses and stores soon! This morning I was sooo thankful for convenient healthcare! If you have a RediClinic in your area, you should really take advantage of it. It's so easy to just pop in (no appointment needed!) and only pay your regular co-pay instead of a large minor emergency fee! This place is great and when I woke up coughing up my left lung, I knew I needed to go in. I was in an out in 30 minutes with 4 prescriptions in hand! Thank goodness we have a system that allows for easy medical care! I'm so thankful I got to see my friend Maria this weekend! Ever since she got married and moved away, I've had major withdrawls :( She was in town for her great-grandma's 98th (you read that right 100-2!) birthday party and she was able to set aside a couple hours for us to get pedicures! Even though 2 hours is not NEARLY enough time with her, we made the most of it and got to act like we were back in high school :) Thanks for making time for me, girl!! Miss you like crazy!! This past weekend, Husband took me on a date and I'm so thankful that we still have semi-regular dates even when life gets a little tough! We went to see The Dark Knight Rises and it was really good! Hubs has a thing for Anne Hathaway so he was very pleased with the movie, haha! Although, Christian Bale isn't too bad, either so I guess it was a win-win! Have you seen it yet? What do you think???

This week I'm thankful for an understanding husband. It's been a stressful couple of weeks and we have had to work extra hard to make sure things run smoothly. Husband has been incredibly sweet and helpful whether it's with housework, finances, emotional support to even helping with work (we work together and he's been helping me like crazy!). I'm so blessed to have him! I'm thankful to be American. I LOVE the Olympics for so many reasons but one thing I have always appreciated is that it's a time for patriotism. It seems like sometimes people need a little motivation to sit back and look at how lucky they are to be from their country and have people representing them. The US has been extremely lucky in their Olympic endeavors over the years and I'm proud to wear my red, white, and blue and support the 528 athletes who are in London competing right now. When I left for work this morning it was still dark out. This time of year is such a great time to ride the bus into downtown during the early hours of the day because I get to catch the sun rising over downtown Houston. The skyline looks so pretty during dusk and when I can see it on my commute to work, I am reminded that fall is just around the corner! Today was the first day that I noticed the days getting just a little bit shorter. Though most people don't like shorter days, I love them because they let me know that the holidays are coming!! Hermano came over for a little bit this week (I may have had to bribe him with food...) and I really enjoyed spending a little bit of time with him! It's so crazy how time flies. Now that he lives about 40 minutes away, I almost NEVER see him! I can't believe we are both grown up and leading different lives. At least I have good pics, like the one I posted here, to help me remember the good ol' days! haha. Love you, Hermano! This weekend was my grandpa-in-law's 85th birthday so we went up to Husband's hometown to celebrate. We had a party for him on Saturday and then another mini-celebration yesterday. It was an eventful weekend, and I got very little sleep, but it was great to see everyone. Along with the birthday celebrations, we had an adventure during a thunderstorm yesterday! I thought I'd give you a good laugh for this Monday morning and share the adventure with you. First, there 8 dogs at my in-laws house. Most of which are extremely afraid of thunder!! Then, part of the gutters fell off on the back deck because of the heavy rainfall and wind! The gutters had a tarp covering some roof leaks so as soon as the gutter fell, two rooms started leaking! This is all happening while we have 18 family members at my in-laws's so it was a little crazy to begin with! After we got some buckets under the leaks and my cousin's husband was enlisted to try to fix the roof (he does this by trade), we saw the power lines outside swaying. Worried about what happened, my father-in-law opened the front door to see what was happening. Apparently a huge tree branch had broken and fallen on the line. As we congregated by the front door to look, we saw the line start smoking. Then, it caught fire and we watched a mini-explosion as the line blew! Then, we road was blocked by the power line and tree so we had to call the fire truck and the power company to clear the street because everyone was blocked in! Needless to say, we had an eventful and adventurous weekend. It was fun but I was definitely ready to get home last night! Think I'll be catching up on some rest this week! So I was reading my friend Amanda's blog (click here to see it!) and she was homesick for Tejas recently and posted this video. I thought I'd share the same one! I'm not very versed in Texas Country music but sometimes I'll relate to some of the songs. Since the Hubs is a tried and true Texas boy, I mostly appreciate the music because it reminds me of him :) His home town is even mentioned in this song! Enjoy and happy Friday!! This week I'm thankful that I got time to finish three books. I'm especially thankful for my relaxing weekend (that I mentioned a couple days ago) that I spent reading in a calm, quiet house :) Sometimes things get so hectic that I don't have a chance to just sit back and relax. If I want to read, I have to sneak it in between whatever obligations I have. This week, I got some genuine "me" time and it was fabulous! I'm so thankful for the free time I have right now. Love S & B and Gossip Girl so I chose this pic :) I'm also thankful for the girl time I had this week. So far, I have had dinner with two friends (my friend Kristen made me dinner - isn't that sweet??? and my best friend came over last night to catch up and eat with me!). I also had lunch with a friend from college on Monday (whom I hadn't seen for YEARS and it was great to catch up!) and yesterday, I had lunch with Erin, my old college roommate. I mean, seriously, this has been a great week! Who else gets to see THAT many friends throughout the work week??? Lucky me!! Speaking of girls (and friends), I'm thankful for lasting friendships as well as those that come back after many years. Each of the friends I spent time with this week have been in my life for years. Some of them I lost touch with for a few years but have reappeared recently and some have been there all along. I think it's incredible when you can have friends with history. Whether you went in different directions for a while or you grew WITH them, it's amazing to stay connected to people. When looking back, I don't know what I had expected for this point in my life, or who I expected to be a part of it, but either way, I'm thankful for the blessings I have today! Lastly, I'm grateful to work with Husband and have the opportunity to go to lunch with him when I want and share downtown life with him. His mom and brother came in town last week and met us for lunch downtown. We got to show off our office and give them a taste of what it's like to work in a big city (they are not from a big city!). Husband's mom took this pic of us waiting for them to meet us! Aren't we cuuuuuuute???? Happy Monday, Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! I made an effort to take it completely easy this weekend and it was amazing. Most of my weekend revolved around relaxing in my (clean) house and reading. The hubs and I went on a date Saturday afternoon/evening and saw Brave which was way better than I expected! I already had high hopes for the movie but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that the story was much better than the previews had advertised. If you haven't seen it, I'd recommend going as soon as you can! It also has a great soundtrack! Both mornings Husband and I woke up and had breakfast outside on our deck. I recently fixed our espresso machine and it was a treat to enjoy a homemade latte and watch the golfers play in the morning (we live on the golf course). Saturday morning had a bit of cleaning and Sunday we went to church, but come lunch time (both days) I was free! I spent my free time reading Never Let Me Go (review coming soon!) while snuggling with my cat and enjoying the quiet of our house while Husband worked outside. It was so great to just relax while indulging in one of my favorite hobbies. I seldom get weekends with free afternoons and I made sure to cherish every bit of it. I even forced myself to take a nap! (Unfortunately, that energized me and I couldn't fall asleep last night!). What did you all do this weekend?? What is your idea of a perfect weekend?? Would you prefer to get away or stay home? This week I'm thankful for the two free books I've won from goodreads. My friend told me to join and I've had a blast on this social network for readers! You can discuss books, rate books, see what your friends are reading, and even apply to win free books (signed copies or early releases)! My first signed book should come in the mail today and I'm excited to get started on it. Since I spend so much money on books every week (yes, I read at least one book a week usually!), it's nice to get some for free so I can save a bit of money! The book I'm getting this week is a crime mystery. Hope it's good! I'm so thankful for the relationship I'm forming with Caitlin. My Uncle Steve, who passed away in March, always called me his daughter - till he had a beautiful girl of his own. He still called me his daughter till the day he left this earth but I know I never stood a chance compared to Caitlin. We knew each other when we were young but never got to know each other very well. In honor of Steve, we decided to focus on getting to know each other and become close friends. The more I get to know her, the more special I realize she truly is. Caitlin is an amazing girl with a good heart. She will make a huge impact on this world and I can't wait to get to know her even better. Sometimes Husband's patience truly amazes me. Yesterday, I updated my software on my new iPhone and it wiped out EVERYTHING on my phone. I couldn't even turn it on! After a slightly immature fit, I calmed down and 3 hours later, my phone was running again. I was so grateful for the patience Husband showed during my mini-meltdown. He was so great and willing to go out of his way to help me get a new phone today if necessary. Thank you, Sweetheart! Christine is in the middle of our "triplet" group This is my friend Christine's last week at work :( :( :( She is moving to California for a few months because her husband was transferred out there and she's taking her gorgeous little boys with her. Even though I'm sad that she won't be here any more, I'm thankful for the fun times we have shared at work and the times we have spent outside of work as well! She is a blast to be with and I can't wait for her to move back! This week I'm thankful for the sweet notes Husband has been leaving me. Recently, he has been making an effort to surprise me with notes when I wake up, come home from work, or just because. It's such a nice surprise whenever I find one! Lucky me :) I'm also thankful for the amazing support I have from my work Big Bro, David. He completely looks out for me and has been so supportive of me! Yesterday, he sent me this pic he found of a "big brother teacher little sister". It's soooo cute!! My college roommate, Erin, just moved to Houston and is working a few blocks away from me. Instead of only seeing her every few months, I now get the opportunity to see her way more often. I'm so excited!! I've been trying to get her to work here for about 4 or 5 years. (Which tells you how old this pic is...) This was her first week at her new job and I get to have lunch with her today! YAY! In honor of Mother's Day this weekend, I am thankful of my mom. (Isn't she cute here?!). I'm thankful for all of her support and friendship over the years. My first baby tomato! Growing up, I could not keep ANY plants alive. My mom could take something dead and bring it back to life. I, on the other hand, killed a bamboo plant. If you go into my mom's garden, there are all sorts of herbs and veggies growing and I always thought food tasted better when you used home grown ingredients but, alas, I could never do it! After I got married, I bought a couple of house plants and wanted to see if I could handle it. Both plants are alive and well along with two of the three herbs my mom gave me (the basil and garlic dill made it - the oregano did not). I enjoyed using my own herbs in my cooking so I thought I'd try something else - how about a tomato plant?? With the husbands help watering, my tomato plants have grown almost 5 times the size they were when I got them and they are COVERED with tomatoes. Yesterday, I picked my first ripe tomato and made a caprese salad for dinner! I used my own basil and my own tomato and it was delicious!! Now I am waiting for all the other tomatoes to turn red so I can make even more yummy dishes for the Hubs and me. Over the weekend, I bought more herbs and I cannot wait to start experimenting! I'm thinking about growing my vegetables in pots because of the limited yard space that isn't intruded by golfers or our dogs. Have you ever grown a potted garden? Do you have any advice? What are your favorite herbs to cook with? |
