I don't know if you've heard, but Texas has had a ROUGH summer. We've had a record-breaking number over days over 100 degrees and the sub-tropic city of Houston has gotten almost NO rain.
Generally, a Houston summer will have an hour of heavy rain almost every afternoon Flash flooding is a common occurrence here and it's just something we deal with.
This summer, we are in the middle of a category 2 drought and all 5 million of us are under a strict water restriction. We haven't seen rain in ages. The yards are brown, our plants are dying, and we are facing fines for watering our grass during the wrong hours of our assigned day a week.
But last night... we had a storm!! And when I woke up this morning and it was drizzling and dark outside!! The water-cooler talk at work today consisted of those comparing how much rain they got and whether they thought it would last. I think everyone would rather be home today dancing in the rain and breathing the air that has finally been washed clean of the bagillion allergens that live in Houston. I know I would...
I heard the forecast during lunch and it looks as though the storm is moving away from us. Once again, we'll have record-break heat (107 on Saturday) and dry weather for the immediate future, but the last 20 hours of clouds and rain have changed the moods of so many. It makes me want to do a little rain dance :)
