Today marks 3 weeks until my favorite holiday of the year!! I can't believe Thanksgiving in so close!! I love the holiday and the family time that we get. I really think it's important to give thanks for the blessings we have and remember our loved ones at this time of year. I can't wait to celebrate with our families and eat lots of yummy food! Tuesday was date night for the bestie and me. For some reason, Salice and I always seem to have dinner dates on Tuesday so I guess that makes it our official date night. This is a good thing because Tuesday is probably my least favorite day of the week (unless it's Fat Tuesday but that's because I love food haha). On the Tuesdays that I have a girly date to look forward to, I feel much more appreciative of the day and it's a little easier to make it through. It was great to catch up with Salice and enjoy yummy steak and wine! I'm thankful for all of the absolutely adorable kiddos in their costumes yesterday. It's great to see kids totally get into the holiday and see what they come up with when it comes to costumes. My sister Cate made the costumes for her family this year - how cute are they?!?! Ellie is Goldilocks and Mom, Dad, and Baby Claire are the 3 bears. I don't think it could be any cuter!! Wish I could have been there to see it in person! Gingerbread lattes are back!! I always get so anxious for this time of year because it means the return of the seasonal red cup at Starbucks as well as my favorite latte flavor. I started out my morning with one and I'm hoping that will set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Basically, I feel like the Starbucks gingerbread latte means the beginning of the holidays (so I'm actually not judged for walking around with that holiday spirit high that I get this time of year :) )

I have had some computer problems this week and I finally have it up and working again. Sorry I've been unable to blog the last couple days, but I thought I'd make up for missing yesterday's Thankful Thursday post by writing a Thankful Friday post. Most of all, I'm thankful that it IS Friday. I'm definitely ready for the weekend! Enjoy and have a great weekend! I took this pic at the Houston Dynamo game on Saturday night. Husband and I got tickets from our friend Blake after Blake's wife had twin baby girls on Friday. Originally it was supposed to be Blake and Husband at the game but Blake was a little busy... haha. I was thankful to be at the game but I am also thankful for Husband in general this week. More thankful than I am for going to the game with him, I appreciate the little things he does. For example, the other night, I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and listening to music when he got home from work. Before saying anything, he walked up to me and grabbed me and started slow-dancing. I love when he is sweet and shows me how much he appreciates me. Lucky me :) So I got some new specs this week. Here's a pic of them. It has been a couple years since I got new glasses and I was ready for a change. I wear them most of the time I work so I get a lot of use out of them. I'm glad I have good insurance that allows me to pick out something practical and stylish. And, I'm glad I got a new prescription so my eyes can get a bit of a rest! Whatd'ya think?? I am so thankful for breakfast for dinner. Last night, I just did not feel like cooking dinner so instead, I made pancakes! These are pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes (my favorite as you know already) with added vanilla protein powder to bulk them up a bit. They were super filling and delicious. We topped them with French vanilla whipped cream and it felt like we were having dessert. Husband really appreciated the change as well :) Plus, we had a cold front come through last night and I figured what better way to welcome the fall weather than with fall flavors?? And, finally, I am so excited about our oranges! We have a mandarin orange tree (and a grapefruit tree and a lemon tree) in our back yard and I always get so anxious when the fall rolls around because I know our oranges will be ripe soon. Yesterday was the first day I could go out and pick some off the tree. Most aren't ready yet but I did get a handful of fragrant, sweet deliciousness! These oranges will make an entire room smell like Christmas when you peel them. I think that's part of the experience I love so much! This weekend, I'll run my Women's Run10Feed10 10k that I've been raising money for during the last couple months (it's still not too late to donate!!). I'm staying with my sole sister Cate and cannot wait to see her and her lovely family!! When I asked what I should pack for the weekend festivities, she said not to pack anything other than comfy clothes since we will mainly relax. Well, she didn't have to tell me twice! As I threw 3 sets of leggings and some comfy shirts into my bag, I realized that everything is comfy and casual and I can't wait to change into my lounging clothes! Even my running clothes (similar to those in the pic) are ridiculously comfy. Sooooo after running my 6.2 miles, I'll spend the rest of the weekend in clothes inspired by those gorgeous VS models (yeah, they make it look better than me but you get the point) and feeling as comfy as ever!! I seldom get to just relax on the weekends but this time, I'm taking full advantage of it... I'm even dressing the part ;) This weekend was my mom's 60th birthday and we threw her a 1920's themed birthday party. It was so much fun seeing everyone dressed up in their 20's gear and listening to music from the era! We had excellent food and the house was decorated amazingly. The best part about the weekend was the fact that we had family come in town to celebrate. 3 of my mom's 5 siblings made it down from Kansas along with 4 of my cousins! We also had a special visit from Caitlin (who is basically my sister). The friends that came for the party were so special to my mom and I know she truly appreciated everyone who made it!
My mom's 60th birthday is this weekend and to celebrate, we are throwing a 1920's themed party!! I'm so excited about all she has planned. We will have "bathtub gin", dance the Charleston, dress like flappers and much more! I've been working with her to send out invitations, make plans, plan my costume, etc. and yesterday, my husband asked what he should wear... oops! Totally forgot about getting him a costume!! haha. My bad. Soooooo.. I decided to look up some men's fashion from that era. There isn't much but I'll make sure to get him a hat. I did, however, find some super-cute women's outfits! I thought I'd share some pics of both (the small amount of) men's and women's fashion. They did dress pretty cute back then but I like today's fashion better ;) This week I am so thankful for my little brother. We celebrated his 22nd birthday on Tuesday night and I think he really enjoyed himself. In honor of him officially being old (hahahaha), I thought I'd pull out an old picture of us from about 17 years ago. Doesn't he look ADORABLE??? What a little blondie!! I'm thankful to have such a wonderful, loving brother and to have such a good relationship with him. Last night, I stayed up wayyyyy too late talking to Caitlin but it was totally worth it! I'm thankful that I get to talk to her so regularly and that I may actually get to see her next month!!! (If you're reading this, Caitlin, you should probably look at your schedule now and make sure you can come!). It's so amazing that we have gotten a chance to really build our relationship and become close! :) Sooo on a totally superficial level, I'm so pumped that it's finally turning into boot season! I can't wait to pull out the boots (and eventually the scarves/hats/other fun fall accessories) and enjoy fall! I've been looking all over for some fun fall boots. How cute are these??? Not sure what I'd wear with them but they are adorable! And I love the grey! Although the game tonight was postponed, and we won't be starting the season for another week, I'm still thankful that Aggie football is starting up! I love the college football season and it's going to be an exciting journey as we start up in our new conference! I really hope that this move is good for us and I'm proud to cheer on my Aggies!! I hope others had the opportunity to enjoy the Olympic opening ceremony Friday night. I was very impressed with the entire thing. It included humor, history, hope, and celebration and I think the ceremonious torch lighting was incredibly touching. Well done, Brits, well done! I really enjoyed seeing Team USA walk out during the opening ceremony in their preppy Ralph Lauren outfits. I think everyone looked so sharp and made a great impression! The men looked rather dapper and the women looked so cute! I think the outfits were flattering for everyone and the berets were amazing (I mean, seeing Kobe Bryant and LeBron James in a beret - I think that's a once-in-a-lifetime experience!) It really looked as though the athletes stepped right out of a magazine! What do you think of the outfits Team USA sported (pun, intended) on Friday night?? Monday will be our first anniversary and I'm so excited, shocked, anxious that a whole year has passed with Husband. It's been a crazy year and I can't wait to celebrate all we have been through!
For my anniversary present, Husband is taking us on a Caribbean cruise!! As you can imagine, I'm constantly thinking about sun, clear water, good food, and of course cute cruise clothes! That means that my Pinterest time has been mostly spent perusing outfits I want to take with me.... I thought I'd share some cute summer clothes (you know, in the spirit of my upcoming trip!). I thought I'd use today as an excuse to look up things that really make me happy. Here are some things that I'm loving right now :) Teavana's Rooibos Tropica tea blend from Teavana. For those of you who have never been to Teavana, you should find one near you! There are so many samples and you can mix and match any teas you like. This tea is delicious and sweet. It has tropical and floral tones to it and it's the perfect tea to drink when you just want to relax. I'm drinking a cup right now! How everyone decorated our cube section for Halloween yesterday! There are lights everywhere and something Halloween related on each door and cube. It is so festive! I LOVE holidays and decorating! Sweaterdresses!! Sweaterdresses are so cozy and versatile. This dress makes you want to snuggle up with your sweetie after going to a nice dinner. You can dress up or dress down these warm outfits and feel comfortable no matter what you're doing! This dress can be found (on sale!) at Victoria's Secret. All of the Breast Cancer Awareness stuff this month. Especially the Warrior's in Pink Victory Tee from Ford.. This shirt is feminine and rocky and would look really cute with dark wash jeans! It's only $20 and 100% of the net proceeds go directly to the Susan G. Komen foundation. It makes me happy to see companies who are willing to donate so much to a cure for breast cancer - something that so many people suffer from. There are many, many companies making huge donations this year. Here are 56 Stylish Ways to Fight Breast Cancer from Self.com. Check it out! Grapefruit :) We are finally getting some delicious grapefruit at our grocery stores. This juicy, fragrant fruit has so many health benefits and I love having grapefruit with my breakfast every morning. Koelzer Bee Farm Once-a-Day Lotion Bar. I got a bunch of honey goodies for a wedding present from some of my cousins in Kansas. They know the family who owns this bee farm and wanted to share some of the goodies with me. This dry lotion bar smells amazing (it's subtle and feminine) and it's very hydrating. Since I travel a lot, sometimes I don't like to pack a bunch of liquids. This allows me to bring dry lotion with me! A bonus, this bar also stops itching from mosquito bites and poison ivy. It's also known to keep away mosquitoes! (I'm going to try it next time I go outside in the evening!). This morning I was having a bit of bloggers block so I asked my friend, Ken, for a topic suggestion. He laughed and goes, "Why don't you write about boots? Girls love boots! I'm sure that's a great topic for you!" He's so right. I DO love boots. And I'm excited I get to pull out my boots soon! I did a little boot shopping online and found some that I really like this season! Here are some that I are topping my shopping list: I have always loved the look of riding boots. They are so classic and seem to mix fashion with play and practicality. These Bandolino boots are very affordable as well. I found them on Zappos.com right here. I'm loving the this versatile shade of grey! You can wear it with navy, chocolate, or black. It's a great accent color. And this boot is a great way to dress up a pair of jeans or dress down a skirt or fall dress. It has some dimension to it and the stacked heel gives it a strong look. I found this one at InStyle.com. UGGs are sooo comfortable and warm. I wore them every single day during the winter in Syracuse. These UGGs are also quite fashionable and you can change up their look depending on what you're feeling that day. They are easy to slip on and have a sort of western flare to them. I also found these on on Zappos.com here. Since I'm in Texas, I gotta show off some absolutely adorable cowboy boots. These are so detailed and cute! Very neutral in color but the blue gives them a little pop. I found these on the Anthropologie site right here. Burberry - Love this color! For all of those not suffering from this crazy drought, it's time to pull out your rain boots! Rain boots give you a chance to wear something a little brighter/with a little more statement that you generally would. I picked out a few different rain boots that I find very cute! All these can be found at Zappos.com. |
