This weekend, one of my best friends Andrea married the love of her life. The wedding was fabulous and I had such a wonderful time seeing her and her family as well as some of my good friends! Here are some pics from the party!

I asked my friend Erin if she wanted to go to lunch today. We have weekly lunch dates ever since she began working a few block away from me. After she said she couldn't, she send me this email:
"Actual conversation in my head this morning: I was like… “maybe I’ll see if R wants to go to lunch today…” Then I was like… “well she might not want to go because we JUST had lunch on Friday…” But then I was like “who am I kidding she loves to go to lunch with me…it doesn’t matter!” and then I got to work and they were like “we are going to Tony’s today…you better go with us…” and I was like “ohhhh okaaay….”" And, in a nutshell, that is our relationship. Basically, she is my comic relief for the day. Oh how I do love her!! I'd like to say happy birthday to my friend Kristen and happy birthday eve to some of my favorite people! I guess this week is a good week for all sorts of people!!! So here goes!! This week I am thankful for an understanding boss. My new boss is so sweet and understanding and I love working for her. We are still adjusting to working together and, because of her different managing style from my previous boss, we are still learning each others's expectations. She has been so understanding throughout this adjustment period and I'm lucky to have that. Yesterday I was soooooo grateful for nice people at the airport. I had a stressful traveling situation yesterday when I ended up at the wrong airport for my flight. I had made my reservations to leave from a specific airport and apparently, the travel site I used did not alert me when it made my flight from a different airport. Yes, I should have looked carefully at my ticket, but I honestly didn't expect that it would schedule me from an airport I didn't choose. So.... needless to say, when I showed up an hour before take-off and I'm told that my flight is leaving from the airport across town, I had a major anxiety attack. I was leaving for a business trip to a place that has very few flights in and out of it. I raced across town to get to the other airport and find that there is no parking! Apparently, half of the airport parking garage is under construction! I was watching the clock the entire time and praying that my flight would be delayed! When I finally made my way through the maze that was the parking lot to find someone leaving, I ran to the airport security line to find that there was a 30 minute wait to get through security. My flight was scheduled to take off in 10 minutes! I frantically cried out to the TSA guy to see if I could get through early and, of course, he didn't let me. Instead, tons of incredibly sweet people started asking those in front of them if I could cut in line because I was going to miss my flight. It's amazing how nice some people can be! Luckily, my flight took off 10 minutes late so when I made it through the line and SPRINTED through the airport, I made it onto the plane! I was sweating and panting as I took my seat but I kept thinking about how I wouldn't have made it if it weren't for those 20 or so amazing people who pulled strings to make sure I could make it! I received 5 free books this week (2 others aren't pictured but I got these 3 on the same day!). It is like Christmas time when you open your mailbox and see 3 packages of brand new books! I'm so excited to read these, and the other two I won from Goodreads! I've developed a true appreciation for reading books and critiquing them. Secret wish: I'd love to be a book critic in the future!! This allows me to pretend I am for the time being :) My good friend Andrea asked me to be part of her wedding when we spoke this week and I felt so blessed. She and I haven't seen each other since the day this picture was taken over two years ago! After she graduated med school, she moved across the country for her residency and has been soooo busy that I never get to see her anymore!! She's getting married next weekend and I can't wait to see her and share her special day with her! She will forever be my soul mate (right, Adge?), even if I don't see her every day like we did back in college! I'm thankful to be in her wedding as well as to have her in my life! So I was reading my friend Amanda's blog (click here to see it!) and she was homesick for Tejas recently and posted this video. I thought I'd share the same one! I'm not very versed in Texas Country music but sometimes I'll relate to some of the songs. Since the Hubs is a tried and true Texas boy, I mostly appreciate the music because it reminds me of him :) His home town is even mentioned in this song! Enjoy and happy Friday!! This week I'm thankful that I got time to finish three books. I'm especially thankful for my relaxing weekend (that I mentioned a couple days ago) that I spent reading in a calm, quiet house :) Sometimes things get so hectic that I don't have a chance to just sit back and relax. If I want to read, I have to sneak it in between whatever obligations I have. This week, I got some genuine "me" time and it was fabulous! I'm so thankful for the free time I have right now. Love S & B and Gossip Girl so I chose this pic :) I'm also thankful for the girl time I had this week. So far, I have had dinner with two friends (my friend Kristen made me dinner - isn't that sweet??? and my best friend came over last night to catch up and eat with me!). I also had lunch with a friend from college on Monday (whom I hadn't seen for YEARS and it was great to catch up!) and yesterday, I had lunch with Erin, my old college roommate. I mean, seriously, this has been a great week! Who else gets to see THAT many friends throughout the work week??? Lucky me!! Speaking of girls (and friends), I'm thankful for lasting friendships as well as those that come back after many years. Each of the friends I spent time with this week have been in my life for years. Some of them I lost touch with for a few years but have reappeared recently and some have been there all along. I think it's incredible when you can have friends with history. Whether you went in different directions for a while or you grew WITH them, it's amazing to stay connected to people. When looking back, I don't know what I had expected for this point in my life, or who I expected to be a part of it, but either way, I'm thankful for the blessings I have today! Lastly, I'm grateful to work with Husband and have the opportunity to go to lunch with him when I want and share downtown life with him. His mom and brother came in town last week and met us for lunch downtown. We got to show off our office and give them a taste of what it's like to work in a big city (they are not from a big city!). Husband's mom took this pic of us waiting for them to meet us! Aren't we cuuuuuuute???? Gretchen and me enjoying a Syracuse blizzard! This week, I'm thankful for my friend Gretchen and her creative support in my life! Haha. She's an amazing artist (if you don't believe me, check out her website here or the post I did about her a couple weeks back!) Gretchen has been helping me brainstorm ideas for my Sicilian kitchen and she's even going to do some of the artwork for it! She's so incredibly creative and I love everything she makes! She's also bubbly, free spirit that always puts a smile on my face. Today, she has an interview for an amazing job and keep your fingers crossed that she gets it! Today I had a "girly lunch" with a couple of my coworkers and it was so much fun! There were three of us and one found this pic that doesn't totally look like us but shows off the good time we had! I love girly lunch dates - they give us a chance to relax and talk about things that the husbands probably wouldn't care about! I mentioned that I'm nursing a strained IT band and by the end of the day, my knee is usually aching. My doctor prescribed this anti-inflammatory gel that you can apply directly to the injury and it's great. Now I don't have to take Advil every four hours and upset my stomach. Instead, the medicine can start working directly where it's needed. Lastly, I'm thankful for Pinterest. It sounds shallow, I know, but it's not the site that I'm thankful for, it's what it provides! I can look up something funny if I'm feeling down or I can look for decorating ideas (been doing that a lot this week!) or crafts or presents to make for people. I can also find delicious recipes and learn cool tricks about my new gardening endeavors. Today, my friend Kim and I were sending each other laughs back and forth with all of the hilarious pins we found. Sometimes it's nice to just laugh out loud (for real) and then share it with a good friend. This weekend was a blast. Husband was out of town so I spent the weekend with some of my girlfriends (and my friend's son Kanon!). My college roommate, Erin, spent the whole weekend with me and we had a blast. We watched a bunch of movies and just hung out. The big event for the weekend was blueberry picking! I used to go blueberry picking every year and haven't had a chance to do so for the last few years. My mom always wants to go so I invited her to come along. We met up with Kim and her son Kanon as well as her friend Alison. We had a blast! Everyone discussed the different blueberry recipes they were going to try when they got home and, except for my mom and me, this was the first time any of the crew had been blueberry picking. What are your favorite blueberry recipes?? This week I'm thankful for the two free books I've won from goodreads. My friend told me to join and I've had a blast on this social network for readers! You can discuss books, rate books, see what your friends are reading, and even apply to win free books (signed copies or early releases)! My first signed book should come in the mail today and I'm excited to get started on it. Since I spend so much money on books every week (yes, I read at least one book a week usually!), it's nice to get some for free so I can save a bit of money! The book I'm getting this week is a crime mystery. Hope it's good! I'm so thankful for the relationship I'm forming with Caitlin. My Uncle Steve, who passed away in March, always called me his daughter - till he had a beautiful girl of his own. He still called me his daughter till the day he left this earth but I know I never stood a chance compared to Caitlin. We knew each other when we were young but never got to know each other very well. In honor of Steve, we decided to focus on getting to know each other and become close friends. The more I get to know her, the more special I realize she truly is. Caitlin is an amazing girl with a good heart. She will make a huge impact on this world and I can't wait to get to know her even better. Sometimes Husband's patience truly amazes me. Yesterday, I updated my software on my new iPhone and it wiped out EVERYTHING on my phone. I couldn't even turn it on! After a slightly immature fit, I calmed down and 3 hours later, my phone was running again. I was so grateful for the patience Husband showed during my mini-meltdown. He was so great and willing to go out of his way to help me get a new phone today if necessary. Thank you, Sweetheart! Christine is in the middle of our "triplet" group This is my friend Christine's last week at work :( :( :( She is moving to California for a few months because her husband was transferred out there and she's taking her gorgeous little boys with her. Even though I'm sad that she won't be here any more, I'm thankful for the fun times we have shared at work and the times we have spent outside of work as well! She is a blast to be with and I can't wait for her to move back! My friend Gretchen is an amazingly talented artist. She is so creative and has such a broad range of abilities. An article was published this past week at examiner.com about how she started her Etsy shop and where her inspirations come from. Read the article here. Gretchen tries to recycle things and turn them into art and that makes for some incredibly creative items. You can find her shop at here. No matter what you want, I'm sure Gretchen can create it for you. She does jewelry, pop-up books, paintings, sketches, makes boxes, paints designs on floors and walls (even computer monitors haha!), clothes, and she can make items such as curtains or books. Below is a tiny sampling of some of her work but it doesn't even begin so show off her talent. Take a look at her site and you'll see even more of what she can make! As a side note, not only is Gretchen an incredible artist but she is also a dance teacher and a heck of an Irish-step dancer. Above all, she is a good-hearted, amazing girl :) |
