This weekend, one of my best friends Andrea married the love of her life. The wedding was fabulous and I had such a wonderful time seeing her and her family as well as some of my good friends! Here are some pics from the party!

This weekend was my grandpa-in-law's 85th birthday so we went up to Husband's hometown to celebrate. We had a party for him on Saturday and then another mini-celebration yesterday. It was an eventful weekend, and I got very little sleep, but it was great to see everyone. Along with the birthday celebrations, we had an adventure during a thunderstorm yesterday! I thought I'd give you a good laugh for this Monday morning and share the adventure with you. First, there 8 dogs at my in-laws house. Most of which are extremely afraid of thunder!! Then, part of the gutters fell off on the back deck because of the heavy rainfall and wind! The gutters had a tarp covering some roof leaks so as soon as the gutter fell, two rooms started leaking! This is all happening while we have 18 family members at my in-laws's so it was a little crazy to begin with! After we got some buckets under the leaks and my cousin's husband was enlisted to try to fix the roof (he does this by trade), we saw the power lines outside swaying. Worried about what happened, my father-in-law opened the front door to see what was happening. Apparently a huge tree branch had broken and fallen on the line. As we congregated by the front door to look, we saw the line start smoking. Then, it caught fire and we watched a mini-explosion as the line blew! Then, we road was blocked by the power line and tree so we had to call the fire truck and the power company to clear the street because everyone was blocked in! Needless to say, we had an eventful and adventurous weekend. It was fun but I was definitely ready to get home last night! Think I'll be catching up on some rest this week! I love the Fourth of July! It's one of my favorite holidays! (Thanksgiving is number one and Fourth of July comes in a close second!). Since next Wednesday is the great birthday celebration for America, I likely won't be posting recipes for you. Soooo, to prepare for next week, I thought I'd share a few fun holiday recipes! Today my parents are celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary! I'm so happy for them! My dad bought my mom the sweetest gift that he found while he was in Europe - glasses just like the ones they used for their wedding day. As soon as my mom opened the box, her heart melted! Hopefully they get to do something romantic this weekend to celebrate!!
I wish I had some wedding pictures on my computer so I could share some of their sweet moments the day they said "I do" but, alas, these are what I did find. (Sorry, my dad doesn't like to be in pictures so it took some digging!). She looks SOOO happy This weekend, we went to a wedding for Husband's cousin Lindsey. It was a small, family wedding and it was beautiful. Lindsey looked so incredibly happy during the ceremony and during the first dance, I don't think she realized that anyone else was even in the room. I'm very happy for her and I wish her many, many years of happiness. The decorations at the reception were so gorgeous and Lindsey put a huge amount of time and thought into them. Though I wanted to take a picture of EVERYTHING, I tried to limit myself to only a small sampling of her great creativity. Below are examples of how precious her decorations were and some of the things that truly scream "Lindsey." One year ago today, I married my best friend. I was surrounded by friends and family who had come from all over the country to watch me say "I do" and I was and still am so blessed for all that I have. I can't believe how quickly time flies! Husband and I were talking this weekend about how crazy the year has been and all that has happened. One thing's for sure, though - we are more in love today than we were a year ago and I hope that trend continues over the next 60+ years.
Love is definitely a lesson and every day I feel like I learn more from Husband. I think we each have learned a ton this past year about patience, love, kindness, forgiveness, strength, etc. And we have grown together. It's more than I could ever have hoped for! I look forward to the many years to come and hope they are full of love, joy, passion, family, and life! Our wedding day was filled with so many people that mean so much to us. It's wonderful to know I was surrounded by those who truly care for us as a couple. We have even received cards and anniversary presents from some of my bridesmaids and their husbands! How thoughtful is that??? I wish I could put a million pics on here from our wedding day, but I can't choose. Here are just a few to capture the evening. Monday will be our first anniversary and I'm so excited, shocked, anxious that a whole year has passed with Husband. It's been a crazy year and I can't wait to celebrate all we have been through!
For my anniversary present, Husband is taking us on a Caribbean cruise!! As you can imagine, I'm constantly thinking about sun, clear water, good food, and of course cute cruise clothes! That means that my Pinterest time has been mostly spent perusing outfits I want to take with me.... I thought I'd share some cute summer clothes (you know, in the spirit of my upcoming trip!). This morning I began getting text messages at 5:15 from my dear friend Kim. She had her new baby boy at 4:50 and he was a healthy 7 lb. 10 oz. I'm so excited that Kash is finally able to meet the world and I'm excited to see him this afternoon!! This is the first picture I got of him and I'm sure there will be many more to come!! Congrats Kim and Kevin on your new baby!! Today is Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, and both days hold a deep meaning to me. I was raised Catholic and we always celebrated the days leading up to Lent and the important days during Lent. Though Husband and I now go to a Protestant church, Lent will forever be important to me. Our church actually does celebrate Lent and Ash Wednesday and I'm very happy that I can continue this tradition with Husband because his previous church never did. Living so close to Louisiana has also impacted my knowledge and appreciation for Mardi Gras. Even though many see Mardi Gras as one huge celebration, there is actually a lot of meaning behind the holiday. Read the link I included to learn a little more about the tradition of it. And, today, enjoy a huge feast!! How was your weekend? Mine was good and full of birthdays! Saturday was my best friend's birthday and I wanted so much to spend it with her but she was in a wedding that day so I didn't get to see her :-/ That's okay, though, because I'm taking her to a hockey game to make up for it :) :) Since I couldn't see Salice on her birthday, we went out of town to see Carrie. Her birthday was last week so her husband threw a surprise birthday party for her. It was a huge success and we had a blast! It was great to see Carrie up and moving around and I was so glad she got to enjoy the time with her family and friends!! We all gathered at the house while her friends took her out shopping and when she got home, about 50 people were waiting for her! We had food and cake and then her husband's band played. I'm so glad we got to share that day with her and I know it meant a lot that so many friends were there to celebrate her time with us. Below are a couple pics of the birthday girl, Salice, and then some from the party on Saturday! Happy Random Acts of Kindness Day!
This holiday was started in 2005 to share random acts of kindness toward others. I remember getting a free Starbucks gift card handed to me in 2005 with a note telling me to pass along the act of kindness to someone else. I don't think I'll ever forget the gesture from a random stranger. It's not hard to leave someone a nice note or buy coffee for the person behind you in the Starbucks line. Make the extra effort today - trust me, it will be appreciated more than you know! Here are a couple sites (and news articles) that give more information about this day: http://www.randomactsofkindness.org/ - The foundation that started it all How cool is this? This is great too!
